Is No More Heroes THAT good?

Thinking of a new game to get and I was thinking of No More Heroes. After watching some vids, I must admit the concept looks great but it doesn't seem to be much going on. Like there's something ''missing''. Well, I thought I'd ask people who actually played the game than some youtube vids. Is it worth it? It's about $20 right now but I don't want to be disappointed. It's either this or RB2. Thanks guys.Is No More Heroes THAT good?
It's a really ''love-it-or-hate it'' games. There are flaws some won't mind, and flaws that other won't be able to take.It all depends on your mindset.I'd recommend you to rent the game,to see if it will be right for you. Is No More Heroes THAT good?
its a love it hate it type game, but i ,LOOOOOVE it, at 20$ its a steal go for it
I think it's a very good game, but there are flaws in it. Like you hinted at, the gameplay is kind of repetitive. And the best part of the game are the bosses, while the other parts are good (for the most part, but some things not so good), but have their problems. Some people can forgive the problems that it has, while others can't. I'm kind of in the middle, where I can look past some of the problems, and think it's a very good game, but there is a lot that I hope they do for the sequel so that it is all that it can be.

I'm assuming that by ''that good'' you mean GOTY worthy, because of its high praise in the GOTY nominations (best new IP, and seems to have won Wii GOTY because it's the only Wii game listed in the regular GOTY nominations), and if that's what you mean, I don't think it's that good, no. But it is good. If you can, I'd say that you should rent the game to see if it's for you or not, because as others have said, it's a love it or hate it kind of game.
Thanks for the help guys. I can't rent because where I live, there are no places renting games. LOADS of pirated crap but I'd rather be a good person :P So it's all or nothing.
It's good untill you have to go around in that horrible, HORRIBLE city. It almost ruins the game.
I liked it, but I still don't think its as good as Killer7. Its a good game for a great price.

Yeah I agree, it is a hit or miss game with some people, but I loved it. The art direction is superb and has great gameplay with tons of blood, which is almost always a good thing.
I thought No More Heroes was a pretty good game. The fighting was usually pretty fun, and it didn't become too repetitive to me.

[/QUOTE]Agreed 100%. There are a lot of people on this board that hate NMH because of it's flaws. Personally I thought it was a great game, but renting it would probably be a good idea.
I bought it 3 days ago and I was in a similar situation as yours (I was not sure if it was going to be so good as some people said). Well now that I have played, I am quite sure that it is a great game; it is true that NMH has its flaws but the global gaming experience that this title offers is unique and woth it for 20 bucks. Go for it!!

It's the only reason why I'm thinking of getting a different game aside from rhythm :P But RB2's DLC and Online really interests me. At the same time, loads of people say I should give NMH a shot because it's unique. Ah, decisions decisions....
It is a great game. A great way to start off a new IP. I can't wait til the second one comes out. Hopefully they will fix the few mistakes, and NMH-2 will be even better. But i did play the first 4 times all the way though, and 2x times was back to back.
i think its good, but i dont see it as GOTY good. this could be because i havnt beaten it, ive only played it with my friend. the bosses were amazing, the cutscenes, hilarious, the story very interesting, voice acting, good. my main problem is the time between the missions. gathering money can be very repititive, and theres almost noone moving around in town for some reason. it feels desserted (sp?) and a little bland. all in all, i liked the game alot, but i dont think its GOTY material. i wouldnt have payed $50 for it, but its certainly worth a shot for $20.
It's not a good game it just has a really aweome style. If You don't like its atitude then don't even bother.
I loved it but like everyone says it has serious flaws. It's a low budget title and it shows.
(Now get it.)
I haven't played it myself, but am tempted to pick it up soon, considering the dirt cheap price. Also I've heard more good things about it than negative things, so...
You need to rent it first. a lot of people olove it, and a lot of people (my self included) hate it.
It all comes down to how much you like the fighting. The fighting is the most repetitive part in this game, but if you happen to love it, it's all good. If you happen to hate the fighting, then you're screwed. Lemme give you a brief overview of the fighting.

A is to slash with your sword. B is to do a physical attack. Holding your Wii-remote in an upright position or a lower position affects what kinda attack he'll do. There are low and high slashes, and low and high blocks. I forget which button was to block, but I think it was Z or something. You can use d-pad to roll to dodge attacks.

Most of the time, the basic flow of battle will be this:

AAAA, when the enemy dies, swing the remote in a certain direction to cut him up and get coins. BUT you can mix it up a little bit with your physical attacks. If you do AAAAB or something like that, it might stun the enemy, giving you a chance to do a super awesome wrestling move. If the wrestling move doesn't kill him, you can stab him while he's on the ground. Oh I forgot to mention, there's charge attacks. You can charge his slash, which leads to an insane one that kills a lot of people, and you can charge his physical attack, which is hard to hit with, but it'll stun the enemy, giving you a free wrestling move + stab them while they're on the ground = death.
Personally it was my biggest waste of $20 all year. Graphics were ugly, frame rate was choppy, horrible aliasing problems, controls were clunky, interface and presentation was a joke to the point of being archaic. My virtual console games look better than this game. I honestly don't know how the heck gamespot gave this game a 9/10!

This is just my opinion though. I'd suggest renting or borrowing it if anything.
