The game will be good no doubt, but people are expecting too many things to result from its release. Sales probably wont be that spectacular in the first few weeks. Third parties won't mystically turn around and throw a whole bunch of other shooters onto the Wii. It might not look as good as Metroid Prime 3 or have local multiplayer or splitscreen. I hope people realize that it is the beginning effort by High Voltage Software in this FPS territory for the Wii. Kinks always have to be worked out, so I hope that the large amount of hype surrounding this game (more than many games I've seen in years) doesn't cloud realistic judgments. I also hope that no one expects some dazzling story, because honestly, how many FPS/TPS games have one? Who plays these games for the story? The Conduit won't meet expectations
i don't think it will although i hope it does because i need a game for the wii to play aside with made world. My PS3 and 360 have been getting all the love. The Conduit won't meet expectations
atleast the wii's finally getting something again.
i wonder what ppl are expecting?
personally im expecting a polished, well executed wii but fairly standard FPS. basically im expecting the best FPS on wii bar MP3 (which is a FPA...though i do expect conduit to control better than MP3). thats not exactly a very high bar though.
i expect it to show off the technology, engine and controls as much as possible and i expect it to push the wii very hard technically (which it looks like its doing imho).
im expecting a solid online experience with voice chat. im not expecting it to change everything. im not expecting a half life or halo. i just dont think HV have that much imagination yet....doing movie licences and ports takes its toll.
im not expecting a hugely robust, feature rich multiplayer experience. 15-20 maps, 2-3 game modes and basic features like a friends list (which i suspect will be friends code based) + voice coms.
im not expecting it to look as good as games on other platforms. i dont expect UE3 levels of visuals.
we still have timesplitters 4 , no confirmation on closed studios or anythign so thats good, the sites still up, usually they shut that down first,

I'm expecting it to be anywhere from good to great. High Voltage has never had a name for great games, but they've probably never worked on a game so hard. They've already broke technological standards and critics think they have a promising attitude ( http://wii.ign.com/articles/891/891710p1.html ). Weapon designs are awesome (like the bola gun and the one who's projectiles can be guided by the cursor) and in my experience great weapons make great scifi shooters.I know great graphics and great weapons don't make great games, but i think these are small representations of the kind of effort that has been put into this.
From what I have seen of the level demo on IGN it's shaping up to be pretty good. Not keen on the naff blood but it looks very playable, there's plenty of bad guys to shoot and the presentation is pretty good.I'd say a solid 8 is what I am after and hope it sells upwards of 2mil.Phil
No worries. I'm just hoping for a non WWII shooter with decent graphics, online, and good controls. It looks like those expectations have already been met, so the rather generic story doesn't bother me. Join the Conduit Union!

There will be people like me who don't get hyped, play it, and really like it. Then there will be people who get way too hyped up on it and then hate it because it wasn't the best game ever. It happens all the time with just about every single high profile game.

Have you been living under a rock since E3?
But yeah, I agree. People expect way too much from a game and then are disappointed when their expectations aren't fufilled. Exact same thing happened with Sonic and the Secret Rings, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Sonic Unleashed (notice how I'm naming games that had a lot of hype, and disappointed people even though they were still pretty good). Same thing will happen with not only The Conduit, but another Sega-Wii game that's coming out next year, a specific March 13 to be exact.

[/QUOTE]I was actaully very hyped GTA IV and it lived up to my expectations. So did Brawl and Call of Duty World at War etc. Anyways...to be honest. I don't expect anything besides awesome controls from this game. Everything just looks... I can't really describe it. Hopefully it will open the eyes of other developers to make FPS's on the WII. I won't be getting this game for sure because I have other titles to get. This may get a solid 8 or high 7 but I don't expect a 9 or above.

I'm sad to say that series is gone... free radical has closed up shop
Who honestly cares?I'm just happy we're getting the game. I don't ''only'' play shooters, but I would love playing more with my Wiimote since there's....ya know.....3 that are decent and the system has been out for 2 years.

It won't sell 2 million copies. That's for sure.
Some of you people have ome rediculous standards. I mean this is an independant studio known for making shovelware stepping up to the plate and trying to deliver where everyone else is failing. If the game sucks don't buy it but lets give these guys a chance. We should slam them after failure, not before.
5+ months of production still left...
I can't do anything but agree. Regardless of how great of a game this is, which is something that remains to be seen for a lot of people (myself included), it can't hope to meet the insane expectations set for it. I've heard The Conduit touted as the Wii's Halo and a game that will ''save the system.'' The Wii doesn't need a Halo-like game, and it definitely doesn't need saving at this point. Even if it did, I highly doubt that a first major FPS effort from a developer like High Voltage Software would do the trick. Nothing against the developer- heck, I admire the effort that seems to have been put into this game, but what's been made of this game by a lot of people is just too much to ask for. For all we know, it's possible The Conduit could be a solid game, but the exact opposite is also very much true. Once again, I'm holding out until this much-hyped game is finally released before making any concrete judgements.
